John 5 at Foufounes Électriques

I had the chance to see and photograph John 5 at Foufounes Électriques this week. I am a big fan of him and love his guitar play style. It was the first time I was seeing him alone but I already had the opportunity to shoot him while he was playing with Rob Zombie at Heavy Montreal 2018.

John 5 was supported by the great Late Night Trouble, a really nice band with amazing energy! I recommend you to check them out. Hope to see them again with better lighting.

Cradle of Filth at Theatre Corona

This week we had the chance to have Cradle of Filth at Theatre Corona in Montreal. The group was supported by Frayle and Valfreya.

It was nice to finally have a night with good lighting at Theater Corona, last weeks shows were really poor in terms of lighting… I was really happy to see Cradle of Filth again as they are one of the first bands I listened to. I was a bit sad though with the setlist as it was missing a lot of “classics” in my opinion.

At least their lighting was great allowing me some really nice pictures. It was also nice to have Dani with all of his energy, such a pleasure to see him after so many years.

Here are my photos of the night!

Deftones and Gojira @ Place Bell

Saturday night was a big metal night for me ! Deftones was coming to Montréal for a big show with Gojira @ Place bell

I must say that I was more interested in Gojira, I am a big fan of them, than Deftones, who I know less. But still, I was very happy when they played two of my favorite songs, My Own Summer and Changes. It would have been perfect if they also have played Root. But I think this one is a bit more confidential.

Both shows were great, with amazing lighting ! Which is always a pleasure for photographers like me. I was a bit disappointed to not have some fire, like the last time I shot Gojira at Heavy Montreal. The big lighting cube of the Deftones show, providing an amazing lights setup, compensated a bit for the lack of fire.

Thank Thorium Mag, who allowed me to get to Place Bell to shoot the event. And thanks Evenko and Deftones manager to allow us in there.

Hypocrisy @ Studio TD

For the first time, I was able to see Peter Tägtgren with his band Hypocrisy at Studio TD in Montréal. He is a genius musician and I am a big fan of his project Hypocrisy and Pain.

It was a bit sad that the sound was not that good and the lighting was also really cheap… the photos could have been far better. Usually, lights are good at Studio TD. Not sure what happened.

Anyway, the band was not alone and was playing with Hideous Divinity, The Agonist and Carach Angren.

Thank Thorium Mag, who allowed me to get to Theatre Corona to shoot the event.

Three Days Grace @ MTelus – 25/11/2018

What a hell of a show ! I must say that I was more there to see Nothing More than Three Days Grace. And I was not disappointed as Nothing More delivered a crazy performance.

Fozzy playing at Mtelus
Fozzy

The night was opening with Fozzy. I never heard of them before and it was one of the best surprise from 2018 for me. This band is awesome, and certainly the best opening band I have seen in a while. They were just awesome on stage and their music is pretty good. If you like classic old school heavy metal, go check them and see them live! I hope I will be able to see them as an headliner in the future.

Nothing More

Nothing More was next. I was not really familiar with this band before, just knew their name. But they already stopped by Montreal during the year and I was just blown by the pictures I saw from the show. I had high expectations, and they totally met them. The front man is just a beast doing crazy stuff with the gear he has on stage. He is moving everywhere, it looks like no one can stop him.

On top of that they clearly worked on their light show. This is creating the perfect mood and energy for every songs. A real pleasure to photograph them. Be aware that it is not a really heavy band, it sometimes almost feel more pop than metal. But I love their songs anyway. For me it was one of the best show I saw in 2018.

Hard job to come after Nothing More. And as you imagine I would have prefer them to be the headliner. But is was Three Days Grace who will be closing the night.

Do not get me wrong, Three Days Grace gave us a pretty good show. Even if I am not a big fan of their music, they were good on stage. The musicians and the audience were having a blast. But yeah I do not think they were able to make me forget Nothing More who kind of steal the show for me.

Pop Evil @ Petit Campus – 18/11/2018

I was not supposed to be shooting, but I filled in for my friend Thomas as had an unforseen event. Tonight, two bands were opening for Pop Evil.

Era9 playing at Petit campus
Era9

First one was Era9, a local Montreal band that surprised me in the good way. Their musician were really good moving on the stage, which is something rare was this kind of young bands. On top of that, the two singers were full of emotions while singing. Great to photograph despite the lack of lights.

Royal Tusk playing at Petit campus

Next was Royal Tusk, with better light but a bit less of energy. Except for their front-man. This guy was crazy and compensate for the other member of the band who were more static.

Finally it was time for Pop Evil. It was a great discovery for me. Their music is good, the are energetic on stage and they have good light. What else do I need? I would love to see them again on a bigger stage as it sometimes felt a bit small for them.
